Identify exactly what kind of battery product is being imported
“Lithium battery” is not a complete customs description. Record whether the item is a rechargeable lithium-ion cell or battery, a battery pack, a battery incorporated into equipment, or equipment shipped with a separate battery. If the shipment is a replacement pack, describe the pack itself as well as the equipment it is designed to power.
| Question | Useful detail |
|---|---|
| Rechargeable? | Distinguish rechargeable accumulators from primary cells/batteries. |
| Standalone or with equipment? | State whether the battery is separate, packed with or contained in equipment. |
| Cell or assembled pack? | Record the form actually imported. |
| Origin | Use manufacturing origin, not the distributor's location. |
Customs duty and dangerous-goods transport are separate checks
This page estimates UK customs duty and import VAT. It does not decide whether a lithium battery shipment complies with carrier, packaging, dangerous-goods or transport requirements. A correct tariff calculation does not make a shipment acceptable for air, sea, road or courier transport.
Worked landed-cost workflow
A battery shipment worth £2,000 with £180 freight and £20 insurance gives a simplified customs value of £2,200. The live tariff measure then determines the duty formula. If the tariff exposes additional conditions, read the official measure instead of treating the base result as the complete import requirement.
